CONNECTION TO RESEARCH

For my research paper I decided to focus on the homeless population and how the Coronavirus pandemic has affected them. What I found was that there are many reasons as to why a person may be homeless and in difficult situations, and the pandemic has not been easy on them. The most surprising research I found was how getting food had become an even more challenging task for homeless individuals. One troubling statistic that I found was that, “SNAP grew by 17% from February 2020 to May 2020, three times faster than in any previous three-month period” (Silva, 2020). This is something that I continue to think about when I am volunteering at the Cornerstone soup kitchen. More and more individuals are in need of food and most times don’t have enough money to feed themselves and their families. I feel that soup kitchens are a great place because they are able to provide those in need with a warm meal, and I’m grateful that I can help with that.
